Rules

The Formula for Success:

     1)     ATTENDANCE     Physics is not the easiest thing to catch up on. Check the calendar that I gave you in class on Day 1. If you miss something it WILL NOT be excused. If you miss a test, be ready to take it during class when you return.

     2)     TARDIES      Don’t be tardy—most demos and discussions take place right at the beginning of class. If tardies become a habit, detentions will be issued.

     3)     CLASS PARTICIPATION      When it comes to speaking up in class, don’t worry about giving an answer. If it’s right, that's great—if it’s wrong, you aren’t a physics expert, yet...

4)     HOMEWORK, QUIZZES, LABS & TESTS      Always an important part of any class, and FIZX is no different. Homework will be done online using the Quest system from the University of Texas. It is similar to the system you used last year. Homework may not be turned in late. Labs will not be turned in, but expect lab-based questions to show up on homework, or on tests. On tests, you will be able to use the equation sheets and your calculator on all parts.

Grading Policy:

Total points possible determine your semester grades. Grades are based on the scale shown. Grades will be rounded at the

end of the semester. Due to the nature of the class, and the difficulty in writing AP–level questions for tests, there are no

retakes on tests in APP2. Semester grades will be 80% tests / 20% online homework & quizzes.

Extra Credit:

There may be A FEW extra credit opportunities. You must be present in class on the day extra credit is assigned and the date

it is due. When available, extra credit will be due on the specific due date—it cannot be turned in late for any reason, but may

be turned in early!

The Rules:

Besides the normal school rules, here are a few specific to this class…

     1)     Some of the lab equipment is expensive or in a few cases dangerous if misused—If you break it, please tell me

IMMEDIATELY! Please listen carefully to safety and usage instructions. If you mishandle the equipment, play with the lab equipment before a lab has officially begun, enter the back storeroom, or play with anything on the front or side lab tables, you will earn a DETENTION.

     2)     I expect you to respect each other’s feelings, space, opinions and property.

     3)     Be prepared for class each day. BRING: Your packet, a notebook, a pen/pencil ad a calculator.

     4)     Tests/quizzes completed in gel pens or highlighters will not be accepted for points. I won’t strain to read silver, gold, hot pink, purple, orange, yellow, red, or lime green ink on assignments.

5) Cell phones are also not allowed…turn them OFF before coming in to class. You may find them helpful for some conversions from time to time,

or for use as a stopwatch, but use them for such purposes only when told to. Same rules apply to your MacBooks—if they are out, they

should be used for classroom purposes only.

     6)      If you have an IEP that allows for an alternative setting or extended time, we must talk beforehand. You should get used to taking tests in the setting provided, as the AP test doesn't allow for extended time or a different setting than the one provided. Tests/quizzes taken in an alternative setting MUST BE COMPLETED on the day of the test/quiz, or you will take it on the retake day. [Keep in mind you do not have access to myself, the classroom equations, or a provided calculator when a test is taken in another setting.]

Make-Up Work:

If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you’ll be asked to make it up the day you return—you should be prepared for it since the calendar for the semester has been given to you at the beginning of the semester. If you miss the review day before the test, you should opt to take the exam when you return—we don’t cover new material on review days, and you have all worksheets and labs we've done during the unit in your packet.

My Schedule:

If you need to find me for help, to ask a question, etc., here’s my schedule for the year. Please don’t interrupt me during a class.

I will usually be in C134 immediately after school every day but I may also be in W132 (my Regular Physics room). Meetings are on Wednesdays, so I will not often be available after school on that day.
